“I Want You” holds a special place in our story as The Taste. We recorded it during our autumn tour through the UK in 2006, right at The Lodge in Bridlington – captured with incredible energy and care by the fantastic James Kenosha and Jon Maher In those sessions we managed to bottle the live energy of our excessive tours at the time: that raw, driving guitar-and-drums duo sound, full of instinct and the sharp, cerebral pop edge we were obsessed with.
The limited 7″ vinyl came out in February 2007 on Berlin’s Rank Records, earning 4.5 stars from Rolling Stone Germany and marking our debut single.
But by then we were already stepping into a different kind of adventure: our first child was on the way, so we took a family pause to welcome that new chapter.
Years later, re-releasing “I Want You” as Volume 3 in The Taste Years feels like closing a beautiful loop. The B-side “I Die When the Night Comes” remains one of our personal favorites, and the track still carries that same unfiltered intensity and catchiness from those early days.
It’s a reminder of where we started: two people from Munich, married, making music with pure gusto on stage and in the studio.
Lyrics:
You said your fire burns within two
And all the love we shared was so true
I saw you falling from high Babylon
So should I give a hand and let you know?
But all the lies they spit are so true
I was living in a city where everybody sleeps
No one takes care of their child
I was living in a city where everybody sleeps
Get your fucking ass to work
This will kill you
This will kill them
This will kill human being
This will kill you
This will kill them
This will kill human being
You’re so creative, so be creative
You’re so free, so be free
I was living in a city where everybody sleeps
No one takes care of their child
I was living in a city where everybody sleeps
Get your fucking ass to work
This will kill you
This will kill them
This will kill human being
This will kill you
This will kill them
This will kill human being
